Indigo supports the vast majority of INSTEON devices - see our Supported INSTEON Devices List for a complete list.Indigo is a powerful Mac-based home control server that integrates an assortment of popular Z-Wave, INSTEON and X10 hardware devices, as well as a variety of other hardware via 3rd party plugins, to provide monitoring and control of your home.Depending on your needs and budget, you can create a simple system that controls only a couple of lights or you can automate your entire home.We recommend that you read through all of the topics in this Introduction section to get a firm grasp of the pieces required to begin your home automation experience.
Indigo comes in two versions: Indigo Pro, our full product, and Indigo Lite, a version that supports more modest automation needs. There are several places in the documentation where youll see (Pro only feature) - that indicates that the featurefunction being described is only available to Indigo Pro users. The primary difference is 3rd party plugin support which is limited to Indigo Pro. See our version comparison chart for details on the differences. Indigo Pro V6.X Home Automation Server Install The LatestTo install the latest Indigo software, youll need a Mac that meets these OS and hardware requirements. Additionally, you may use Indigo 6.0.21 on the following systems (just keep in mind that we are no longer supporting Indigo 6.0.x so newer devices may not work). Indigo requires that you leave your Mac running all the time (though the display can go to sleep) in order to control your home automation so you should plan where you are going to locate your Mac. The other major piece of the home automation puzzle are the devices that you want to control. Lights, thermostats, sprinklers, door locks, motion sensors, alarm panels, AV equipment, etc. ![]() There are many different manufacturers of Z-Wave devices so the selection is quite good. To use Z-Wave with Indigo, youll need a Z-Wave interface (often referred to as a dongle): Indigo supports Z-Wave via the Aeotec Z-Stick Series 2 interface or the EZController Z-Troller interfaces. Other USB and serial Z-Wave interfaces may work as well but weve concentrated our efforts on the Z-Stick EZController Z-Troller. Indigo currently supports the following types of Z-Wave devices. ![]() Note however that just because a module isnt listed doesnt mean that it wont work - Z-Wave is architected such that devices that correctly support Z-Wave features should automatically work. ![]() Indigo Pro V6.X Home Automation Server Free To ReportIf you have a device that isnt listed but works, please feel free to report it to us and well add it to the list. There is a very simple mechanism to report devices, described in Editing a Z-Wave Devices Properties towards the end of that section. There are a few 3rd party vendors that make INSTEON hardware but most devices are made by SmartLabs. We also support the following discontinued INSTEON interface.
